Become an IronMan
Have you ever wanted to complete an Ironman? Are you looking for a fun, supportive, and fantastic sport that supports anyone’s fitness goals? Do you have a background in swimming, biking, or running (or none of them!)? Then check out Tulane University’s Triathlon team!
Disciplines
Swim
The first discipline in a triathlon is a short swim, which is usually in a lake or ocean. Tulane Triathlon members practice with Tulane Club Swim, at no extra cost.

Bike
Up next is a bike ride, which is the longest distance of the three disciplines. As a part of Tulane Cycling, race bikes are provided to our members at no extra cost.

Run
After the bike ride, the race bike is racked and the run begins! Distances vary from less than a 5K up to a full marathon. The finish line is coming soon!

Everything In One Place
The Only Club Sport with a Private Facility
We are proud to be the only Club Sport at Tulane with a private training facility, which houses our team fleet, workshop, WattBikes, and more. Every member receives 24/7 Splash Card access, and can store their own equipment as necessary. Just a short walk from the main campus (on the Broadway campus), our facility is conveniently located at the start of one of the safest and smoothest places to ride and run in the city, the New Orleans levee.

FAQ
I've never done triathlon or one of the disciplines. Can I still join?
Absolutely! We love to introduce new members to the sport, and you will quickly fall in love with triathlon—your first race is quite the intoxicating atmosphere. Most people get into the sport because they currently or used to do one of the disciplines. However, completely new people are more than welcome. As long as you can ride a bike and know how to swim, you’ll be great!
Do I need my own equipment? I've heard it's expensive to get into tri/IronMan.
You’re right that it’s expensive to get into triathlon. However, we include nearly everything you’ll need to get started. Dues cover a racing bike, helmet (if you don’t have your own), membership in Tulane Club Swim, race/travel/hotel cost, and more! It is helpful if you have a pair of joggers and a swimsuit, but your dues cover as much as possible! And we have some of the most affordable dues at Tulane!
I'm a little nervous about the swim portion—will I be okay?
As long as you know how to swim, you’ll be just fine. In most races, you are even allowed to float on your back, swim on your back, and even hold onto one of the volunteers’/lifeguards’ paddle boards or boats to rest up for a bit.
If you don’t know how to swim, you can still participate! Most races have a “run-bike-run” option or similar.
How do I join?
Shoot us an e-mail and we’ll give you a tour and show you how to officially join the team. Also, join our group chat and introduce yourself with a photo and a short blurb about yourself!
I have another question that isn't answered here, how do I reach out?
Shoot an email to triathlon@tulane.edu and reach out. We can give you a tour, and before you know it, you’ll be finishing your first IronMan!
